Sailing for Yorkshire: Facing my Fears

Life is a challenge at times. Facing them is hard but can be rewarding. I’ve decided to go on a  sailing adventure across the North Sea from Portsmouth to Bergen in Norway; the challenge being sailing 800 nautical miles with 14 people I don’t know, no cabins, only hammocks- no beds and 2 heads!

Why am I putting myself through this gruelling journey.  In 2014, my sister in law Alison died of pancreatic cancer. Since then I’ve been volunteering with YORKSHIRE CANCER RESEARCH. As we found with Alison, people in Yorkshire are more likely to get cancer and die from cancer, than most areas of the UK.  I want to raise awareness of this issue nationally and showcase some of our innovative research. That’s why I’m Sailing for Yorkshire, to raise awareness of the issue.
